- Spring wheat and alfalfa checks will start soon for winter annual weed control recommendations, fertility, and disease conditions
- Ridge till and no till field checks for early preplant weed control
- Soil sampling will resume as soon as the ground thaws
- Planter checks and calibrations are being done
- Last minute crop budgets and crop changes are being discussed with growers
- Continued training on a crop reporting program, manager training, and regional and division meetings are being conducted

Recent wet conditions are delaying any potential very early planting of corn in much of Nebraska. The cold spring has delayed greenup of winter annual weeds and other plants by about 2 weeks, compared to recent years.

Biofuels and Soil Management
The government mandated use and need for an increase in biofuel usage in the USA has obviously driven up the commodity prices of corn. There is real concern in many environmental organizations, government entities, and individual opinions that our natural resources will be squandered to provide the extra crops and yields to produce these fuels.
